Journal of Animal and Plant Sciences (J. Anim. Plant Sci.)

ISSN 2071 – 7024

The Journal of Animal and Plant Sciences (J. Anim. Plant Sci.) is an Open access journal published by Elewa Biosciences Journals and it aims to publish articles covering all areas of research on animal and plant biology, production, utilization, exploitation and conservation. Materials to be published may be on research project outcomes, reviews of relevant scientific subjects and  general interrogation of scientific ideas.

SCOPE

This journal will publish articles on the following areas:

  • New knowledge to improve crop and animal productivity on farm.
  • Beneficial and detrimental effects of plants or animals under controlled environments, greenhouse (for plants) or enclosed animal farming systems.
  • Interactions between species and the consequence on biodiversity conservation efforts.
  • Articles that enhance our understanding and capacity to improve livelihoods through animal and plant production, e.g. phytoremediation to clean polluted environments, plants and animal resources as energy sources (bio-fuels, biogas, energy farming).
  • Plant and animal based industrial development, e.g. pharmaceutics research, food industry, dyes, leather, and other resource exploitation.
  • Interface between pests and pathogens of plants and animals, their management and human health, e.g. zoonoses, chemical pollutants in the environment, chemical or drug residues in foods, etc.
  • Industrial and value adding technologies associated with animal and plant production.
  • Controversial issues, e.g. GMOs and their place in modern society.
  • We welcome Reviews on issues of interest to the above fields of science.

SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPT

Submission instructions for authors

  • Contributions should be prepared on A4 (210 x 297 mm), using Times New Roman Font Size 12. Lines should be double spaced and numbered throughout the manuscript.
  • Authors should include digital photographs that enhance quality, value and the readers understanding of the manuscript. Photographs can be embedded directly into the text or submitted in separate files. if embedded, they should be compressed to 96 dpi (for screen presentation). If submitted separately, the files should be saved in JPEG format.
  • Articles should not be longer than 25 pages double spaced.
  • Your manuscript should be divided into the following sections:
    • Title (brief and reflecting content of manuscript);
    • Authors names, Institutions, and addresses. Include email address of corresponding author.
    • Abstract. This should be no longer than 350 words. For research papers, it should capture the objective of the work presented, the methods employed, key results obtained and a brief synthesis, i.e. what do the results mean and how they can be used to benefit society. For reviews and theoretical papers, the abstract should lay out the background of the paper, indicating clearly what niche or knowledge gap the paper seeks to fill, or current discourse being contributed to.
    • Key words: Include 4 words that are key to the theme or subject of the paper.

Main body of the manuscript:

  • Introduction: An overview of the state of knowledge on the subject addressed. The subject should be introduced in well constructed flow of thought, leading to definition of the problem to be addressed. End the section with a statement of the objectives.
  • Methodology: A description of the process and tools employed to execute the activity. Should be adequate to enable reproduction.
  • Results and Discussion: The results and discussion should preferably be written separately but may be combined. End with recommendations on how your results can be put to use, the way forward, and if any further research needed.
  • Acknowledgements: should appear after discussion and before references.
  •  References: include only the most relevant citations on the subject. Ideally include only formally published materials. Information from websites can be cited, but always with full address and posting date indicated.
  • Citations within the manuscript text should only indicate author surname followed by year of publication, e.g. (Chin, 2009). If two authors, indicate both, e.g. (Chin and Kong, 2009) and indicate et al if more than two authors, e.g. (Chin et al., 2009). Citations in the text should observe chronology (year of publication) in the first order) then Alphabetical order of authors in the second order., e.g. Poh 2011; Pam, 2015).
  • Citation format for journal article: On the references list, the citations should be formatted to have a hanging line indent. E.g.

For one author:

Mkak KM: 2005. Cultivation of African mango (Mangifera indica L.) in zambia. Journal of Animal and Plant BioSciences 7: 7-14.

If two authors, use ‘and’ between the authors names.

John J. and James K: 2008. Rabbits and moles. Journal of Mammals 4: 209 – 219.

If more than two authors, put ‘and’ between the last two authors

Jones KM, James KJ. and Job NB: 2008.

Citation format for edited book

Jon KM, Sigp EA. and Bromke B: 2005. Tissue reconstruction approaches. Mann UT (Editor), 2nd Edition, Elewa Publications, Nairobi, Kenya. 300 pp.

Citation format for web publications
